Professional Internal Auditor (PIA) – IIASA

The Professional Internal Auditor designation is offered by the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA). [internal link]

The Professional Internal Auditor designation is a more senior and supervisory designation to the Internal Audit Technician. Those in this position usually provide a link between upper management and the junior staff that they oversee.

Admission requirements:

  • Academic: Must have an academic qualification at NQF level 7 or above and must hold the Internal Audit Technician (IAT) designation.
  • Practical: Must have a minimum of five years internal audit experience and must be a practising Internal Auditor.
  • Exams: Must successfully complete the final competency assessment for the General Internal Auditor qualification.
  • CPD: A practising Professional Internal Auditor must complete 40 CPD every year, while a non-practicing Professional Internal Auditor must complete 20 CPD hours every year.
  • SAQA certificate
