Accounting Technician (SA) – SAIPA

The Accounting Technician (SA) designation is offered by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA)

An Accounting Technician (SA) performs support functions to the Professional Accountant (SA), including the accounting functions, the preparation of working papers, working papers for tax returns and the preparation of financial reports. Notably, an accounting technician cannot sign off financial statements.

Admission requirements:

  • Academic: Completion of the second year of a Bachelor of Commerce with Taxation as a major OR a National Diploma in Taxation. (NQF level 6 equivalent)
  • Practical: At least 18 months of verifiable work experience
  • Exams: Centre for Tax Excellence (CoTE) exam.
  • CPD: Total 36 CPD hours, 20 of which can be unstructured. For structured hours, they must complete 4 for IFRS/Financial Reporting, 4 for Tax, 2 for Ethics and 10 for ‘other”.
