Professional Tax Specialist (SA) – SAIPA

The Professional Tax Specialist (SA) designation is offered by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA)

A Professional Tax Specialist (SA) can register with SARS as a practitioner and perform all the services performed by a Professional Tax Practitioner (SA). They are also able represent tax payers in court, write tax opinions and mediate tax disputes.

Admission requirements:

  • Academic: A postgraduate qualification in taxation (NQF level 8)
  • Practical: At least six years’ of experience in an advanced tax environment OR full SAIPA membership with a relevant Master’s
  • Exams: Write and pass the CoTE Professional Tax Examination
  • CPD: Total 40 CPD hours, 20 of which can be unstructured. For structured hours, they must complete 10 hours of tax, 4 hours of Financial Reporting, 2 hours of ethics, and 4 hours of other CPD.
