Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) – IIASA

The Certified Internal Auditor designation is offered by the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA). [internal link]

The Certified Internal Auditor designation is the only globally recognised internal audit certification, with more than 170,000 CIAs working in more than 170 countries around the world. Qualified CIAs are able to fill more senior managerial roles. Admission requirements:

  • Academic: An NQF level 7 qualification
  • Practical: At least two years work experience in an auditing environment. Alternatively, only one of experience is needed with a Masters degree
  • Exams: The Certified Internal Auditor exam is a 3-part exam covering internal audit basics, practice and knowledge elements
  • CPD: Practising Certified Internal Auditors must complete 40 hours a year in total, while non-practicing Certified Internal Auditors must complete 20 CPD hours a year.
  • SAQA certificate
